In the past the town had both towers (torres) and mills (molinos), from which it derived its name, but today it is much better known for its wonderful weather and beautiful finely sanded beaches. There are several superb beaches along the coast, such as El Bajondilo, La Carihuela or Playamar, where you can enjoy the golden sand and the crystal-clear water.
In Torremolinos you can also take part in numerous sporting activities. Discover the town's high quality golf courses, as well as the wide range of water sports available. One of the biggest attractions of Torremolinos is it's food, which is principally based on fish and other seafood. 'Pescaito frito' is a regional speciality but there are also many other delicious dishes to sample.
Torremolinos boasts a particularly diverse heritage, and there you can see the remains of the different cultures; Phoenecian, Greek, Roman and Arab, which have spent time in the region. Visit the old town of Torremolinos to see impressive examples of the island's early architecture, such as the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, the Casa de los Navaja (the Najava family home) and also the 'Torre de Pimentel', also known as the 'Molinos Tower'.
